LEARN 10 WAYS WE COMMIT

We talk alot about self-care, but today I want to focus on how we do that internally as an organization. Below are 10 things we do to ensure we take care of ourselves here at Restore More 

  1. If something is going on in the world we talk about it. With all the senseless killings of people of color, especially black folks, we make time to discuss it. If there's  a social justice issue that’s going on that’s bothering someone we give it space and acknowledge it. 

  2. We start every meeting with a wellness check. In our weekly meeting we start with what’s your self care for the week and how can we support? 

  3. We engage in therapy on the clock. I encourage my team to engage in therapy and we encourage making appointments during the work day if needed. We want to normalize therapy and so ensure we get support as well. 

  4. We have early release Friday’s monthly. Everybody wants a free Friday now and again, so we ensure we have that break. We work super hard and having a Friday to look forward to helps. 

  5. We have matters of the heart moments. If someone on the team is feeling a type of why, we want to address it so it doesn’t linger. To promote this we have matters of the heart moments where anyone can speak up about an issue they are experiencing. These conversations can be tough, and sometimes feel awkward, but they prevent us from having miscommunication in the future. 

  6. If we work late we come in late. We often do parent sessions that take place in the evening, and in an effort to have a balance we come in late the next morning. We’re working because we love what we do, but burnout is real, so we use the privilege of making our own schedule and adjust our calendars accordingly. 

  7. We normalize making mistakes. We all make mistakes around here! Whether it’s a typo on a blog, or a social media post with the wrong date we’ve all done it. We just try not to feel bad about it. We learn from it. A mistake is just a chance to see how to do  something better the next time. So we mess up, own it, and correct the problem. 

  8. We hold each other accountable for self-care goals. Since we check in weekly about self care goals it’s easy to send a text to check in about Kim implementing a sleep schedule or Naraffy cooking something amazing for herself. By doing this we bond,  keke, and help each other take care of ourselves.  

  9. We do self-care activities as a team. Whether its yoga, grabbing a bite to eat, or walking the beltline, Restore More is going to engage in self-care. We have to model what we’re talking about so these outings help us de-stress and bond. 

  10. We take off at least 1 week a quarter. This is something we’ve just started in 2021, and it’s been pretty amazing. Having a week where the business runs itself and you kick back is necessary. It creates time away from the thing and when you come back you’re super motivated and even more creative.
