Restore More was created in 2018 to help organizations build capacity with Restorative Practices, Anti-Racism, and Social-emotional health. They create curriculum and workshops for teachers, leaders, and parents. Their vision is to teach people how to unpack their emotions, giving voice to the tough stuff, to be their healthiest selves.
“If you want kids to unpack their emotions, you have to make a safe space, and be willing to share your emotions. Empathy and emotional intelligence are critical for getting students to open up. Listen deeply and offer support when appropriate.”
Two GSU Alums Win Grant Awards from WEI
JULY 2, 2021 Georgia State University Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute
The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) received a generous donation from the Atlanta Hawks Foundation to present a series of workshops, a pitch competition and grants for women entrepreneurs in the City of Atlanta. The businesses were divided into two groups, one representing the Greater Atlanta Community and the second for their current cohort. From the Greater Atlanta Community group, two Georgia State University alums Claudine Miles, M.Ed. (’19) and Elissa Russell (’20), participated in the workshops and were chosen for the semi-final round out of 33 competitors and ultimately to the final round. Miles’ Restore More builds capacity with restorative practices anti-racism, and social emotional learning for students, educators, and parents winning a $15,000 award.
Student petition calling for “diversity, equity, and inclusion” in schools delivered to state officials

Nearly two dozen students and teachers gathered Thursday morning to deliver a petition in support of teaching diversity, equity, and inclusion in schools to the Georgia Board of Education and to Gov. Brian Kemp. They called on the Georgia State Board of Education to stop censoring the way history is taught in schools and to stand up for diversity and inclusion.
The group, organized by CivicGeorgia, opposed the state Board of Education’s resolution to limit classroom discussions of race. They delivered their petition, which has nearly 7,000 signatures, to the Board of Education, then rallied outside its offices.

Burnout in education is common, with more than 44 percent of teachers leaving the job within the first five years, so her focus makes sense. But not until Miles enrolled in a 12-week program aimed at helping small Black-owned businesses grow did this entrepreneur and mom of a six-year-old son acknowledge that she was not following her own advice.

They challenge us to pinpoint where our community identity is and isn’t in alignment with our goals and values.
We see that people are arriving at different places based on their prior experiences and education. For many people, it’s their first foray into gaining a deeper understanding of race and identity issues.

A six-month journey has begun for the 2021 Center for Civic Innovation (CCI) Fellowship class – 15 leaders and entrepreneurs who work in education, healthcare, justice, agriculture and more – to address inequality in metro Atlanta.
“These Fellows are going to change outcomes for people in this city,” said Rohit Malhotra, executive director of CCI. “When the entire world is falling apart these are the people that show up.”

Fellows from the 2021 class are tackling issues including reproductive justice to veteran services to affordable housing and other concerns that affect social and economic outcomes in their communities. The CCI Fellowship Program provides resources and support to each leader as they grow and scale their work and helps them design solutions that can measurably make a stronger impact.
