IT’S OUR ANNIVERSARY
Well not quite, today but on September 11th, 2021 we celebrated our 3rd Birthday or our Anniversary of getting our documents from the state saying we were an official THANG. I remember feeling so proud and accomplished on 9/11/2018 with that endless task, little did I know how much work lay ahead. Honestly, I’m glad I didn’t fully understand because I would’ve quit lowkey and got a job. I’m glad I was blissfully ignorant, at the time because what happened next was hard, really hard. I ran out of my 6 months savings in 4, and guess what? We weren’t rich and famous yet.
Luckily ya girl was not ready to pack up and quit just yet, due to ignorance, so I decided to hustle. One thing about me, I ain’t above good work, and so my partner and I agreed that I’d bring in $500 into the household monthly. With a huge financial burden relieved I started thinking, how can I make some quick cash and still focus on building Restore More. So I started driving for LYFT. This 2 degree holding, former Assistant Principal was more than happy to drive folks here and there to get to the end goal: a 40 hour work week with Restore More and a meager salary like $25,000 to start. It would’ve been a dream at that point because the revenue well was dry dry. I literally used to drive folks around and pitch Restore More daily. I practiced talking about my business, saying the words out loud, and handing out my card. If you got in my Honda, you were gonna get this pitch okay. Surprisingly I made some amazing connections in that car, future partners, school board members, parents, and educators. It was like I was driving around my target audience so I’d share and they’d give ideas.
I thought I was good at this point. I said to myself I can do this Lyft thing a few hours a day and then work on Restore More, this works. Things were beginning to happen for us too, by November of 2018 we landed our first client. Unfortunately around this same time I was in a bad accident where someone hit me from behind causing some back issues that had me in physical therapy 4 times a week. LYFT was no longer an option and driving was a restriction for a while. I panicked, but was resourceful. I had long ago applied to be a substitute teacher in Douglas County, so I started signing up for teaching gigs.
I intentionally chose short shifts and continued building Restore More. I lucked up at one school and was offered a long term sub position for 5 months from 8-2, so I worked those hours from January to May, was able to bring in more than $500 monthly, and had plenty of time to focus on business. I wouldn’t recommend this path in particular, but 3 years later I’m finally PROUD to share it because it shows how far I was willing to go to follow my vision, and what’s happened as a result. I now have a team, a 6 figure business, curriculum in 33 states, and am blessed to do what I love daily, which is help people. Whether it’s your first time here or you’ve been with us since day 1, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! Your support fuels me. So Happy Birthday to you too, because Restore More is you as well.
