5 Women Entrepreneurs You Need To Know About This Women's History Month!

Happy Women’s History Month friends! Last year, we were able to highlight 11 wonderful women entrepreneurs who are doing amazing things. Here are 5 more women this year who are continuing to break boundaries and make a name for themselves!

Jennifer Lemaitre - I'm a classroom teacher of 10 years turned 6-figure online tutor. In 2018, I found myself suddenly unemployed. I needed a way to generate income and the only skill I felt I was masterful at was teaching. My response was to begin tutoring to make ends meet. What started as a "little tutoring business" grew into a 6-figure business and made me classroom optional. As a classroom teacher of 10 years, I’ve walked in those well-worn shoes and know how choosing between your passion for education and making a decent living feels. Utilizing my Trusted Tutor® framework, I teach educators how to triumph as tutors, serve more students, and profit on purpose. My clients are securing 4-5 figure tutoring contracts, marketing their services confidently, and impacting students nationwide.

Dr. Marie Parfait-Davis - I started ImpactED Consulting Agency because I remember being a student in far too many classrooms where the teacher, although well intentioned, did not have the tools, capacity or resources to teach in a culturally responsive way.  I can assume that my teachers throughout my educational journey had well meaning intentions, but the fact still remains that their lack of skill or will to promote equitable practices caused harm not only to me, but to my peers.  Later, as a teacher, very little in terms of professional development on culturally responsive teaching had changed.  Teachers were left to fend for themselves, oftentimes, attempting to teach hard, complex subjects like Slavery,  Reconstruction, and Jim Crow without the tools needed to be successful.  This often led to students being angry, sad, feeling guilty or not willing to engage in lessons in any meaningful way.  I started ImpactED consulting because I want to change that narrative.  America does a horrible job of teaching factual history. Students, both white and students of color are left with no real understanding of themselves, their nation or their place in it.  As Paulo Freire stated, “ “There is no such thing as neutral education. Education either functions as an instrument to bring about conformity or freedom.”  I want to help schools and teachers promote freedom, promote truth telling and you need more than good intentions, uplifting posters and countless reenactments of the Montgomery Bus Boycott to do that.  You need skill. I can help teachers develop those skills.
